Frequently Asked Questions.
Is it confidential?
Counselling is completely confidential and I will not discuss the content of our work together outside of the counselling room. There are however exceptions to this; Counsellors are required by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) to attend regular supervision in order to ensure that you receive the best possible counselling service and any information the supervisor has about you will be treated in confidence, with your identity protected. Also, in exceptional circumstances, if a counsellor felt either you or someone else were in danger or at risk of harm, they would discuss with you first, the possibility of breaking confidentiality.
How long does each counselling sessions last?
Each individual session will last 50 minutes.
How much does it cost?
Sometimes, finding the right counsellor may not be straightforward. Until you meet, how do you know if you are going to be suited be the counsellor sat in front of you? Therefore I am able to offer a FREE 30 minute session for you to explore the option of you working together. If you are happy to continue you carry on with the assessment. The first session would therefore be 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Subsequent 50 minute sessions are £50.00
Will I have to pay if I cancel my session?
If for any reason I have to cancel a session he will aim to provide you with 24 hours notice and of course you will not be charged for the session. Likewise, it is useful for me to receive 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend. I reserve the right to charge for a missed session where no or insufficient notice is given.
How often are the sessions?
I offer weekly sessions, however this can vary depending on the type of therapy and your personal requirements. Negotiation on fortnightly or monthly sessions is available.
How many sessions will I need?
Every client has different needs and it is not always easy to define how many sessions are needed at the outset. I am able to offer long and short term counselling. After the initial assessment we would normally agree to meet for 6 sessions and at this time you are invited to extend this by a further six sessions weekly or fortnightly depending upon your circumstances and need.
